Cancer… we all know what cancer is, just the word sends shivers down our spines. For many it is a part of their life, for many, it is a disease that causes loss of life. Up until November 2021 for me, it was just a disease. After that everything changed. My grandmother was diagnosed with cancer in December 2021. Just the word ‘Cancer’ broke us down with tears. We flew to her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We tried our best to comfort her, but deep down we knew she had to get her treatment soon. She came with us to Hyderabad and her Chemotherapy started. Every day seeing her in pain and sadness, always broke my heart. I would try my best to motivate her and bring a little bit of positive energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I realized that not only is the cancer patient battling cancer but, so are others related to her. Quoting Jennifer Aniston “Cancer Affects All Of US, Whether You are a Daughter, Mother, Sister, Friend, Co-worker, Doctor or Patient.” <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is World Cancer Day?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

World Cancer Day is an international day observed on February 4th to raise cancer awareness and encourage cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. World Cancer Day is led by the Union for International Cancer Control to support the goals of the World Cancer Declaration, written in 2008. UICC has the theme ‘Close The Care Gap’ – Everyone Deserves Access To Cancer Care – for the years 2022 – 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Cancer and the Cause When We Act?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Each year, 10 million people die from cancer.
That is more than HIV\/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined.
Cancer deaths are expected to increase to 13 million by 2030, according to experts. If we do nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than a third of cancer cases are avoidable. Another third of people can be cured if they are diagnosed and treated early enough. We can save millions of lives each year by implementing resource-appropriate prevention, early detection, and treatment strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Main types of Cancer<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

There are five main types of Cancer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Carcinoma <\/span><\/em>starts in the skin or in the tissues that line or cover internal organs. Adenocarcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and transitional cell carcinoma are some of the subtypes.<\/li>
  • Sarcoma<\/span><\/em> is a cancer that begins in the connective or supporting tissues of the body, such as bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, and blood vessels.<\/li>
  • Leukaemia<\/span><\/em> is a type of cancer that affects white blood cells. It begins in the bone marrow and other organs that produce blood cells.<\/li>
  • Lymphoma and myeloma<\/span><\/em> are malignancies that start in immune system cells. <\/li>
  • Malignancies of the brain and spinal cord are known as central nervous system cancers<\/span><\/em>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
