This is a wonderful poem by Emily Pauline Johnson. In this poem, the poet starts the poem by describing the sky and ground as ‘Thin’ and ‘Wet’. As if a storm could strike at any time, soaking the land. In the Marshes, this is always a possibility. Cranes, Geese and Lizards can be found amongst the land’s reeds, moss, and shadowed corners. These species symbolise a larger group of animals and biological life that live in an area that many people find unpleasant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As night falls, the poet’s speaker keeps track of the animals’ movements and the roles of the plants. It comes with a deafening silence, which will last until the next day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
